Our little layby near Sinnes provided a good nights sleep as well as a great view.  But the sheep are up early wandering about, their bells ringing close by so a sleep in not looking good, so we should hit the road.

Bit of sun in the morning, something you don’t see every morning.
Norway is one picture opportunity after another.  The small farm buildings are nearly all painted a rusty red and there always seems to be a waterfall in the background.
As we slowly descend toward Byrkjedal the country changes again.  Then we find a diversion is in place as the tunnel at Birdal is closed.
Its a long diversion adding about 20 kilometres to the trip to Lauvvik.  The road is narrow and the rain continues.
The Lauvvik to Oanes ferry.  We have a bit of a dispute with the ticket seller but eventually get the 6 metre price.  As I thought he didn’t want to go out in the rain and measure it.

Our original plan was to find a spot for the night and do the walk to Preikestolen early tomorrow, but the weather has broken.  With the sun shinning, we contemplate the option of doing it this afternoon.  So we have lunch, then walk over to the info office.  There is plenty of parking in the top carpark and only a couple of buses parked here.  The fellow tells us there is only about half the normal numbers here because of the heavy rain this morning.  If our week in Norway has taught us anything, its use the good weather when you can.  So we get ready and start the walk.

Once we roll off the ferry it stops raining and the weather clears.
As this picture indicates, the walk up to Preikestolen is hard.  The information board suggest allowing 2-2.5 hours for the walk up.
Another spot the Hymer photo.
Here we are about an hour later. The walk is only about 4 kilometres, but there are 4 serious uphill sections. The rough stone steps are high and uneven but with the sticks to help, we keep a good pace.
As we get closer Lysefjord opens up below and you start to see what all the fuss is about.
The view up the Lysefjord, a passenger ferry below, full of Americans no doubt.
Our first look at Preikestolen or Pulpit Rock. With a sheer drop of 604 metres to the water below.
We have a rest wander about like everyone else taking in the view. We queue for about 15 minutes to get the edge of the rock to ourselves and a young Chinese fellow takes a photo for us.
Yes, Pam is only a metre of so from the edge !
Well its done. 90 minutes to walk up and hour back. Started to drizzle again as we were going down the final descent to the carpark, but by that time we didnt care.

We drive down the hill to a layby off the road and enjoy a beer and glass of wine.  We discuss the adventure we had today, whilst we think of how sore we will be tomorrow.
