Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Tourist Route 12 Atlanterhavsvegen, Norway 2017 ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

Travelled:58 kilometres from Elnesvรฅgan to Vevang, in the Western Fjordlands.

Visited: Driving TR12, the Atlanterhavsvegen, the Museum in Bud, the Hรฅgรฅ Columns and the bridges of Eldhusรธya

Stayed: Vevang picnic area car-park, free.  N63.00798, E07.29653

After driving through Molde, the largest town in the area, we continued on toward the Atlantic coast.  Eventually spoting a carpark above and behind a supermarket in Elnsvรฅgan with a couple of motorhomes already parked there.  So we turned in to have a look, it appears they were obviously in storage, but the carpark had no restriction so we set up for the night.

Driving into Molde in the late afternoon. You may think the sky looks threatening but that’s just the weather in Norway.

Norway

We have a quiet night after a little drizzle whilst we are having dinner.  We have started using the thermal covers on the Hymer’s front windows and it’s much warmer overnight now.  It significantly reduces the condensation on the glass at the front as well.   Anyway its morning and a new day, the internet is again very slow, Pam can pick up the odd thing off ‘messanger’ but that’s about it.  Our three sims that were so good last year in Germany, and Denmark and Sweden earlier this trip has been painfull in Norway.

There is a service point in the corner of the Esso service station down the hill, so our first stop is less than a hundred metres away.  There is also a self-service car wash with a truck section at the end, so we give the Hymer a bath.  After 2 weeks driving through Wales in the rain and another 4 weeks drivng through the rain in The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway its a bit grimey.

45 minutes later we turn onto the TR12, Atlanterhavsvegen, our first stop the Bud Museum at the top of the hill.

Norway

I found the Bud Museum well worth a stop and wander. It’s not about salmon as this photo would indicate, but tell the story of Bud being occupied and garrisoned during WWII.
There are gun emplacements and all sort of interesting war stuff. Which I like and Pam thankfully tolerates.
As we walked around a bus load of tourists pull up and spilled out. I quickly identified they were German, but too late Pam had mentioned the war.
Made by Krupps in 1914 this gun was well out of date when the Germans mounted it here in 1941.
The coastline around the village of Bud
Back on the road again. The TR12 is 36 kilometres in length. It turns left and right here and there as it seemingly wanders up the coast.
At Maleremmen there is a small open air farm museum.
There are several old farm building from the 1880-1900. They look as though the farmer just walk out and left it as is. They are full of carts, tools etc. The main cottage the furniture of the time.
Apparently the old farmer preferred his and her toilets ๐Ÿšฝ.  I don’t think this is what’s known as a dual flush toilet ?
Our next stop as we continue north is Farstadstranda. An actual beach with sand, the Lonely Planet describes it as one of Norway’s best beaches.
Yes it’s a beach and there are people swimming. In steamers of course.

Walking back from the beach, this photo provides a nice view of the surrounding area.

After a lunch of warmed up left-overs from our last weeks dinner, (Pam doesn’t like waste) we continue north.

Our next stop is this walk around a headland. Whilst the walk is picturesque the artwork is a challenge.
I’ll let you reflect on this piece ?

The TR12 concludes with this series of bridges. This panel provides an overhead view.
One of the bridges and the usual motorhome madness.
There are several spots to stop near the bridges and take a walk.  There are some very stylish walking paths.
The sun is out, at the moment.
A last look and that’s the TR12 completed.

We roll back a couple of kilometres to the car-park with the columns (because its well of the road) for the night.
