Henley on Todd, Northern Territory ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ 2025

Date: 16th August 2025

Travelled: Just around Alice Springs

Visited: Henley on Todd Boat Regatta

Stayed: Gโ€™Day Mate CP, $46, S23.73330, E133.86777

Weโ€™ve extended our stay in Alice an extra day to attend the Henley on Todd Regatta. As far as we know itโ€™s been held every year since 1962 unless the Todd is running with water. The event is a tongue in cheek copy of the Henley on Thames rowing regatta for upper class twits.

Our day starts early we drive into town and snag a spot in the all day motorhome and caravan parking area and do a little shopping before the grand parade starts at 10.30 which was actually closer to 10.50 because the brass section were late.

The parade over we have an hour to kill, which Pam uses to cruise the shops in the mall. We eventually make our way to the entry point and pay the admission fee of $10 pp which goes to charity. You cannot take alcohol in and they do check your bags, but itโ€™s available for purchase at stalls.

Itโ€™s all action with the river bed divided into a number of arenas. The races are called on the public address system by two guys apparently from the local radio station. The commentary was funny, politically incorrect often course but always very funny.

We had a fun afternoon watching the locals having fun. It was a great example of a traditional community event with a little more dust that may occur elsewhere.
