Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Bundaberg, Queensland ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ 2024

Date: 6th to 7th June 2024

Travelled: 110 kms from Hervey Bay to Bundabergย

Visited: Childers and Bundaberg, QLDย

Stayed: Bundaberg CMCA, $7, S24.87757, E152.34538ย ย

Budget: 17 days @ $XX per day

Sadly it was time to depart Hervey Bay and continue north. Only a relatively short drive of 50 odd kilometres to Childers. Childers stands on the Bruce Highway in the heart of the Isis Valley, cane country. As a bonus Childers has a free overnight parking stop for recreational vehicles.

We have driven through Childers previously but never stopped. We find a safe looking spot in the carpark have another coffee and go exploring.

We decide on the Federal Hotel for dinner as Wednesday is snitty night so at least my dinner was reasonably priced. In the morning we do our morning walk in the back blocks of Childer before having breakfast and departing for Bundaberg.

Bundaberg is only another 60 kilometres from Childers so we find ourselves the CMCA campsite before 11 am. The CMCA (Caravan and Motorhome Club Australia) only charge $7 per night for members. Itโ€™s nothing fancy but well located to the centre of town.

By 2 oโ€™clock weโ€™ve had lunch and grown weary watching grey nomads like ourselves struggle to reverse their 28 foot caravans into the allocated spots. The bikes are off and we cycle the kilometre or so into the centre of Bundaberg. I steer Pam away from anything that looks like a dress shop and we find ourselves looking across the Burnett Bridge which opportunely crosses the Burnett River.

After exploring Bourbong Street and the main shopping mall we call it a day planning on riding the Burnett River as far as we can tomorrow.

Next morning we ride east on a cycle path, raised boardwalk and some footpath out to the Bundaberg Distillery. Not really in the mood for a couple of rums before lunch we cycle on. We do find the Red Shed, a seafood co-op stocking up on fresh prawns and fish for dinner.

So thatโ€™s Bundaberg done, we note some excellent reviews on a CP in Burnett Heads so we ring and make a booking, so itโ€™s only a 20 klm drive today.
