Rolling out of Port Lincoln itโs a relatively short drive along the Flinders Hwy to Coffin Bay. Thereโs little traffic other than caravans and the odd motorhome.
Coffin Bay, South Australia, Australia
Once we turn off the flinders itโs a pleasant drive with views across the bay. We check into the Coffin Bay CP which is the only option. The CP is huge and we get one of the few places. Obviously Coffin Bay is a Grey Nomad hotspot.
Our guide book recommends Coffin Bay for a seafood feast. Oyster HQ is conveniently enough located directly across the road from the CP, so once we’ve settled in we duck over the road and make a booking for a late lunch.
A couple of hours later we are enjoying some mixed plates with tapas sides. The oysters on par with those we enjoyed during last yearโs Tasmanian adventure. Pam has a new favourite SB, a local wine from Port Lincoln.
We take our time enjoying the food and drink looking over Coffin Bay. Surprising enough we decide on a post lunch nap and the rest of the afternoon looks after itself.
Next morning we decide to walk part of the local tourist track called the Oyster Trail. The map tells us it follows the waterโs edge around the local bays and inlets. We can pick it up just across the road from the CP. The weather turns very quickly and we get a brief shower twice during our 6 kms walk.
Itโs an interesting walk, lots of nice houses overlooking the bay. Plenty of bird life and a carpark full of tractors which appear to be the favourite means of launching your oyster barge.
Back at the CP itโs a quick breakfast and we get the Jayco ready for the road. As we leave town we stop and pick up dozen freshly shucked oysters for Ron (later on that is).
