Further South, New South Wales 🇦🇺, 2021

We broke out the umbrella last night and walked the 50 metres to the Cobargo Hotel for dinner. The pub was full of people but we managed to find a table. The food was excellent and the servings country size.

Full of beer, wine and food we managed a good nights sleep despite some drizzle on the Jayco’s roof. We are greeted with another grey morning but the rain has passed for a while at least. Post coffee we head off to explore Cobargo.

Cobargo was heavily impacted by the fires of 2019/20. Four people died here and several properties in the main street were destroyed. The 2016 census shows a population of 776.

We find Cobargo has some kitch, two churches and a war memorial but no supermarket. There are a few shop fronts offering brick-a-brack and antiques that’s about it. No matter, it didn’t rain and we enjoyed the walk.

Back in the Jayco we have breakfast as the drizzle starts again. Most of our neighbours have already gone and we follow soon after.

Rather than turning off the Princess Hwy for Merimbula we continue on to Pambula thinking of a coffee stop. We find a park behind the shops and go for a look around.

There are lots of people milling about, but many of the shops and cafes are closed. Signs on their windows state they would rather be closed than have to discriminate against their friends. Makes perfect sense if your a complete idiot in relation to Covid restrictions.

After a short walk we return to the Jayco and make ourselves a coffee before returning to the Princess Hwy. An hour later we turn off for Eden.

We find a convenient park on the marina in Eden and have a late lunch. As Pam’s keen for another walk, we head off up the hill to the Rotary Lookout overlooking Twofold Bay. It’s a steep walk but the views make the effort worthwhile.

Eden is less a tourist destination and more a proper working port. The Killer Whale Museum is its main tourist attraction and it’s currently closed.

It’s been a long day but we decide to continue on into Victoria. There’s a free stop at Genoa just 50 kms south of Eden so we continue on.

Arriving at the Genoa campground we join several other motorhomes and caravans for the evening. There’s plenty of room for another 100. Anyway we settle in, enjoy a drink and get the BBQ going.
