Travelled: 170 kilometres from Coolum Beach to Maryborough
Visited: Noosa Heads (briefly) and Maryborough, Queensland.
Stayed: Alan and June Brown Carpark, free, just a bin. S25.53683, E152.69947
Budget:
We planned an early surf before leaving Coolum this morning, but it was actually a bit chilly so it was a walk instead. Itโs tempting to stay another day however another $55 dissuades that notion.
As your are well aware Thursday is sardines day so breakfast required no decisions. The Jayco is readied for the road once again and we say goodbye to Coolum continuing north along the coast road towards Noosa Heads.
Nosa Heads was a regular holiday spot in my previous life but I have not been there for nearly 30 years so it will be interesting to see how it has changed.

Lots of cafes and up markets shops, lots of people being seen or hoping to be seen. But nothing I could recognise from the 80โs. So we continue north for Maryborough.

With the Jayco settled into a free overnight stop, we head off to explore Maryborough. Established in 1847 Maryborough is situated on the banks of the Mary River. The current population is just over 25,000 people.
Our first stop is the Council Chambers to book in. Up to this point we have been using our Services NSW Covid log-in but the lady here insists we download the Queensland equivalent. Any we check-in, get some information on a walking tour and get on our way. The following photos tell the story.

The Mary Poppins Statue was erected in tribute to Helen Lyndon Goff aka P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins. Helen, the daughter of a local bank manager was born in Maryborough in 1899 and obviously went on to be wealthy and something of a recluse. Anyway Maryborough does milk old Mary Poppins for all sheโs worth.

Our historic walk around Maryborough concludes overlooking the Mary River from Queenโs Park. Itโs been a really interesting afternoons exploring Maryboroughโs classic buildings, street art and memorials. We highly recommend you consider Maryborough for a stopover. Back at the Jayco we relax and debrief our day.
We slide the BBQ out and have a nice piece of steak for dinner. Itโs a very quiet evening in, whilst we continue watching Mr.Mercedes…
Did I mention, just across the road from our free overnight stop is Maryboroughโs fabulous aquatic centre. Much better than the two local pools near our home in Taren Point, a seniorโs entry $2.30 pp. Our laps done we ready the Jayco and depart continuing north once again.

So Thursday is fish day! We become Catholics and have Fish Friday. What do you have on the other days? Looks like you are having a great time. We liked Maryborough too. We are mostly travelling to Perth for my new eyes, cataract surgery. Only check ups now. We had to hot tail out of Perth on Friday, stayed overnight in Wagin, lovely site at Showgrounds, all amenities and power, $10 per night. Now in lockdown at home. Enjoy your trip.
