Budget:

A day or two ago we had never heard of a town called 1770. But there it is in our guide book and itโ€˜s highly recommended. Being a long weekend in Queensland, I call and book a site at the camp ground. We pass through Childers and Apple Tree Creek as we drive north from Maryborough. Itโ€™s a relatively long drive given we must leave the Bruce Hwy at Bundaberg and travel the last 120 kms on a minor road.

Looking for a late lunch parking spot we stumble upon Rosedale. Itโ€™s just off the 16 about 60 kms north of Bundaberg.

So we press on to Seventeen Seventy which is also known as 1770 and the Town of 1770. With a permanent population of 69 people itโ€˜s a small tourist village at best. There is a campsite, a pub come cafe and a boat ramp. Famed locally as Cookโ€™s second landing point in Australia in May, 1770.

Soon enough we check into the campsite which is full, so glad we booked. This weekend is the ANZAC long weekend in Queensland, thanks to Annaโ€™s generosity. The place is described as a campsite rather than a caravan park. There is no dump point and general drainage facilities are limited. As usual we just use our on-board facilities during our stay.

Everyone is very friendly and we chat to John and Heather from Rockhampton who are parked behind us. They travel around Queensland extensively and give us ideas for our travels north.

1770 sunsets are amazing !

Next morning we head off to walk to Cookโ€™s landing point and the Joseph Banks Conservation Park beyond. Itโ€™s only about 5 kms return but up and down dale the whole way. First bush track walk since my achilles injury and it all went well.

On our way back we find this memorial to the MV Dianne. Click the link to get the details.

Back in the Jayco for lunch and some down time. We get the bikes off about 3pm and cycle the 5 kms to Agnes Waters. There is an excellent cycle path most of the way. We check out the shops and the surf beach before heading back for drinks and dinner. Itโ€™s been a long day and we end up having an early night.

Next morning is ANZAC day and our thoughts go out to all those who have made sacrifice on our behalf.

We ready the Jayco once again and turn for Rockhampton.
