Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Neustrelitz, Germany 2017 ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช

Travelled:  113 kilometres from Gรผstrow to Neustrelitz in Germany.

Visited:  Neustrelitz

Stayed:  Neustrelitz Marina Stellplatz โ‚ฌ8, but the services are extra.  N53.36574, E13.05559

We have a late exit from Gรผstrow after our visit to the Schloss.  Initially we make good time on the E55 but we turn off to take the scenic drive through the lakeland and Muritz National Park.  Whilst the road is scenic, its also very slow, then just to make matters worse a section of the road is closed and we cop a 20 kilometre detour.  We stop at Warren for a late lunch before continuing on arriving in Neustrelitz by late afternoon.

Like many of the German stellplatz’ we have stopped in, they are set up for travelling boat owners and motorhomes.  The price is reasonable at โ‚ฌ8 or at least that what all these retirees seem to think.
The nicest thing about Neustrelitz is the lake, called the Zierkersee. Other than that the port area is the focal point. A well resoursed marina, some cafes, bars etc. It’s a nice place to have an afternoon wander.
A French Pennichette style house boat on the quay in Neustrelitz. Brings back some fond memories of our couple of weeks on the Midi Canal.
The Neustrelitz Kirke just off the square that isn’t a square.
As you can hopefully see from the map above the old town’s design is similar to the spokes on a wagon wheel. This fountain sits in the centre of a spacious circular public space,

After our morning coffee I get the bikes out and we take to the cycle path around the lake.  What starts out as a very civilised path, turns into a farm track in some stages and an old GDR cobbled road in another.
There are some interesting stopping spots along the 16 kilometres path.  Its a good leg stretch and well worth the effort.

Safely back at the stellplatz in Neustrelitz we pack up the bikes, have breakfast before servicing the Hymer and continuing south.
