Overlooking Cape Town we enjoy our coffee at the crows nest for the final time. Sadly we leave the Zuiderdam this morning for the final leg of our trip. A busy last day yesterday with a special lunch (that means lobster) for departing guests including beverages bunged on by the Captain, followed by a cocktail party in the late afternoon, more free beverages. A glass of champagne for Pam before changing to Aperol Spritz.
It was great get together with all the other Aussies we have befriended. Around 300 Trip-a-Deal Australianโs depart this morning. The Captain gave a great speech about his Australian guests, probably impressed by the fact none of us had mobility issues or make impolite demands on the staff.

Couple of picture from the Zuiderdam about 7 am. Cape Town looks a little grey and drizzly, but it clears as the day progresses.

Disembarking was well organised chaos but our transfer arrives on time and we have our bags stored at the hotel awaiting our room by 9.30. The Pullman is a large hotel probably more of a business hotel than a tourist hotel being in the centre of the city, but the hotel was part of the package so here we are.
No point sitting around, we have a coffee and go for a walk to get our bearings. First impressions, Cape Townโs CBD is busy with people and traffic similar to Sydney. No footpath venders and seeming plenty of uniformed public safety officers standing or walking around.
You stop on a corner and look at your phone and a uniformed person appears asking if you need directions. There are the odd person perhaps homeless here and there but Sydney is the same. The city is clean and the heritage buildings well kept.

No point in wasting the day so we take a free (Pullman) shuttle to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Less than two kilometres from our hotel itโs the centre of entertainment and recreation. Itโs just called the V&A so will I.

We wander the V&A for an hour or so before deciding it was time for a late lunch. Which Pam stated was the best poke bowl ever ! The local fish which they call sole but doesnโt look like sole as I know it, grilled it was very good. Lunch and drinks A$60, SA seems good value for Australian.

Thatโs enough for today, we catch the free shuttle back, check into our room, do some unpacking and call it our first day in Cape Town.
