After a quiet evening in Saint-Junien we go off for our mandatory walk this morning. Not a post-card town by any means but interesting. We can already feel the heat in the air, it’s going to be hot today.
Back at the campsite which was excellent we have a late breakfast and ready the Hymer for the road once again. Setting the GPS for Ségur-le-Château we leave town via the E.Leclerc rather than the Lidl for a change.
Ségur-le-Château, Brive-la-Gaillarde, Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Metropolitan France, 19230, France
From our guide book the Most Beautiful Villages in France you’ll find Ségur-le-Chateau on page 258. Ségur-le-Chateau stands on the River Auvezére in the Limousin. The fortress that overlooks the town was once the birthplace of the viscounts of Limoges, so it’s not surprising Ségur-le-Chateau is the centre of the Limousin. Ségur comes from an old French term, meaning place of safety.
We find a parking spot on the edge of the village and start exploring. The river winds like a serpent through Ségur. There are three old bridges to cross each one providing a different views of the river and the village.
It’s a long walk up the hill to the Église Saint-Léger, pictured below. We find a group of tradesmen cutting, banging and hammering inside. Wish they’d had a sign at the bottom of the hill saying ‘Église Closed’. The last thing we needed was a steep walk on a hot afternoon.
So we’ve done Ségur as best we can on a hot afternoon. There’s a paid aire a few kms further south-east in Objat so we set the GPS and hope we’ll enjoy a night with the AC keeping things comfortable.
