Laundry morning !
We enjoyed dinner out last night and a walk back to the Hymer along the marina. But this morning is another day, washing day. Lucky we donโt have curtains or they would have gone into the laundry bag as well.
With two bundles of washing we walk off to the laundromat. Itโs only a few hundred metres away and Pam soon has two machine working away. Less than 90 minutes and โฌ11 later we are back in the Hymer with everything clean and dry.
The Hymer is serviced and we turn east for Stralsand.
Stralsund, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany
Its nearly a two hour drive along the A20 to Stralsund, including a coffee stop of course. The stellplatz is very new and pretty well fully automated. Realising itโs a 25-30 minute walk to the centrum we find a spot that gives us room to unload the scooter.
Stralsund is another Hanseatic City of norther Germany. It was given its city rights in 1234 and prospered within the trading league for hundred of years. You can read more by following the link above.
There is a motorhome dealer across the road from the stellplatz and Pam reminds me she would like an insect thing on the door. Pam has been reminding me for several years now. The Hymer original screen door is no longer serviceable, armed with a CC I find a solution, I hope.
It takes only a few minutes to the Neuer Market on the scooter, we find a parking spot along side several other motorbikes and walk off hoping not to get a parking ticket. The Neuer Market is basically a big carpark opposite the Marienkirche or the Church of St Mary. The church a monolithic structure in red brick circa 14th century, it dominates the square and this part of Stralsund. St Maryโs was the tallest structure on earth at 151m until the spire was hit by lightning in 1647. It was then caped in a baroque style hood and now stands at 104 m.
The picture below is the best I could do, given its size, the trees and the 400 cars park across the road.
The NSU Quickly a classic German moped. A million of these were produced between 1953 and 1968. Much more stylish than an electric bike, but the pre-mixed two stroke engine would raise some eyebrows today.
We continued walking along the Ossenreyerstr until we reached the Alter Markt, itโs a huge space lined with old pastel coloured buildings. Best of all no cars.
We decide to have a proper look at the Nikolaikirche or Church of St. Nicholas and pay the โฌ3 pp entry. Its two main features are the high alter that dates to 1470 and the astronomical clock(that no longer works) which dates to 1394, pictured below.
Outside once again we walk around and through the Rathaus. It is mostly facade now, but we do find this amazing doorway which may have led from the Rathaus to the church next door but who knows.
Well itโs getting late, so our afternoon walking Stralsund is done. We make our way back to the scooter and the Hymer. Whilst it was a warm day the evening breeze is cool so a good sleep waits.

I do remember the Stellplatz near the Motorhome Dealer they were thinking of getting it going then ,over the bridge into Rรผgen and going to the top where they had the bunkers in the DDR time is interesting, thank you for another great report ๐ Johannes
You ARE!!! kidding with the ‘fly screen door’ aren’t you Michael ๐ ๐
The clock probably just needed a new battery ๐

Every second motorhome in Europe has one of those fuzzy things hanging in the doorway. Keeps Pam of my back about bugs not that there are many here.
