Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Alice Springs, Northern Territory ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ 2025

Date: 13-14th August 2025

Travelled: 1120 kms from New Barrow to Alice Springs

Visited: Alice

Stayed: Gโ€™Day Mate CP, $46, S23.73330, E133.86777

Departing New Barrow weโ€™ve a 300 kilometre drive to Alice Springs, an easy run just the odd truck and caravans going somewhere. Driving into Alice we do a quick supermarket shop and continue on through The Gap to our CP about 5 kms from central Alice.

We get the bikes off and do our Alice exploring via the extensive network of cycle ways. The Todd River is dry, just how the locals like it with the Henley on Todd Regatta coming up.

Our first find is the Botanic Garden just back through The Gap a couple of kilometres.

Pamโ€™s cousin Anne raved about wandering around spotting rock wallabies here recently, so where doing the same. They are a little hard to spot due to their grey colour and at this time of day they rest in the shade under the low shrubs.

However from a botanic perspective we thought it all a bit arid, all a bit drab.

We soon find ourselves up to our armpits in wallabies, there funny little things. Under a shrub in the shade they sit upright on their own tails, we thought that really odd.

Good timing as we make our way back through The Gap we see a train heading north, itโ€™s The Ghan, pictured below but the video is best.

To finish this blog our walk up Anzac hill to the cenotaph provides some great views, however the wind chill was too much for Pam and she was gone.

Thatโ€™s our first couple of days in Alice but more to come.
