We had no more rain overnight but the campsite at Sandstone Park still looks very sodden this morning. Mist hangs heavily across Carnarvon this morning but the forecast tells us it will clear. Whilst the Jayco is warm and dry the bathroom is full of wet cloths and shoes so itโs washing day, but not here.
A quick breakfast before we make the Jayco ready to roll.
Itโs a slow drive back to the Carnarvon Hwy apart from all the cattle grids, every heifer in the district is either walking along the side of the road or crossing it.
Half way back to the highway we stop at the Rewan Memorial. As the story is told a fully laden USAAF C47 crashed during a violent storm in November 1943 with the loss of 19 American and Australian military personnel.
Two hours later we roll into Injune. With a population of just over 400 Injune its a small country town, it boasts a pub, cafe, chemist, hardware and a small supermarket as well as the CP. Itโs a long way between drinks out here, the closest other town being Roma over 100 kms south from here.
We find a spot in the CP and Pam commences what will be 4 loads of washing, itโs a sunny day with a breeze so everything dries relatively quickly.
After yesterdays forced march weโre not much in the mood for taking a walk around Injure, but the pub is only 200 m away and the reviews are very good. So we set off to the pub at 5, spend and hour chatting to the fluorescent shirt guys in the front bar before going out to the dinning room.
Like a moth to the flame, Pam spots the open fire and we find ourselves sitting with a couple of grey nomads like ourselves having dinner and chatting about our travels.
