After riding around Goult for a couple of days we have mastered crossing the highway and using the backroads to the villages whilst avoiding the D2. The last village on our list within a scooter ride is Gordes.
From our guide book the Most Beautiful Villages of France youโll find Gordes on page 104. Like many of the villages in Provence the mountains of the Luberon provide a backdrop. Gordes is perched on a foothill of the Monts de Vaucluse. Our guide book tells us itโs a maze of dry stone houses surrounding a chateau.
Whilst part of the village fit the description, others have been overtaken by luxury hotels and cars ceaselessly circling to find a parking spot that doesnโt exist.
From the occasional laneway a wonderful view of Provence appears. With the breeze the scent of lavender rises from the fields below.
Picture below the Chรขteau or Castle of Gordes. Itโs 16th century and currently houses a gallery on the ground level. Itโs big but somehow a little lost in the carpark that adjoins it. Try as I could I cannot get a photo with some signage.
Pictured below the รglise Saint Firmin. As you can see a wedding was in full swing so no chance of a photo of the church. But we love a wedding and everyone in Gordes was enjoying this one.

A classic late 1960 Mobylette, probably a V40 as it has a rigid frame. Motobรฉcane built 14 million Mobylette in the 40 years they were in production. The term moped is a bastardisation of Mobylette. Obviously its had a new centrifugal clutch fitted but this one needs some love.
Our tour of Gordes comes to a conclusion back at the Kisbee. As itโs downhill itโs a quick easy ride back to Goult Gare. We put the Kisbee back on the rack and ready the Hymer for the road once again.
