After the usual forced march we ready the Hymer and continue west from Sainte-Eulalia-d’Olt following the River Lot east. We turn at the confluence of the Tarn following the river as the gorge deepens.
The road climbs as the Tarn Gorge deepens to 300+metres as we approach Sainte-Enimie before a series of hair raising hairpin bends has us at the bottom of the gorge.

Sainte-Eulalia-d’Olt has no campsite or aire CC but it does have a dedicated area for several motorhomes in its one car-park. It’s chaos in the car park but another camper car is leaving and we soon have a spot.
From our guide book the Most Beautiful Villages of France you’ll find Sainte-Énimie on page 134. Standing within the Gorge created by the River Tarn, the village has some wonderful scenery of the river and gorge. The médiéval village is a labyrinth of laneways leading to other laneways.
The car park is overflowing, the Gendarmes are busy booking cars parked every which way and the front shopping strip is full of tat. It’s well over 30° and where thinking Sainte-Eulalia-d’Olt maybe be a short stop.
The further we walk up the laneways into the old town the more interesting it becomes. It’s a steep walk the laneways paved with river stones and old limestone slabs polished smooth by thousands of people who have walked up these laneways over the last thousand years.
Eventually we find the Romanesque Église Notre-Dame-du-Gourg, (circa 13th century) pictured below.
It’s well and truely late lunch time when we find a small restaurant the specialises in crepes. We went the buckwheat savoury, very nice, with drinks €31.
Lunch done we walk it off by wandering along the Tarn and over the bridge for a last couple of photos. If we had some shade we could have easily stayed the night here but the Hymer is like an oven, so we set the GPS for Florac.
It’s another 30 minutes up the gorge to Florac. The campsite has a spot in full shade, so once we are set up we wander 50 metres down to the Tarn for a swim. So that was our day.
