The morning for our departure to the Faroe Islands has finally arrived. We’ve done a little last minute shopping, made up some bread rolls for lunch packed some snacks and driven around to the terminal and joined the queue. As we’ll be disembarking in the Faroes, (not going on to Iceland) our check-in advice tells us to arrive 30 minutes later than those going directly to Iceland. Last on first off is the go.
We get our room key and our boarding pass for the Hymer and make a coffee whilst we wait.
The passage to the Faroes is 30 hours. The ship is completely booked out, below decks crammed with cars, campers, trucks and a helicopter. The loadmaster has me turn around and reverse through to the rear of the ship and parking in front of the helicopter of all things.
Whilst the wind is up, the wave height is less then 2m so our 30 hours is relatively comfortable despite the fact we booked a basic cabin with no window. The bistro food is pretty good, I’ve certainly had worse.
Rolling off the Norrona into Tórshavn we look for a parking spot near the marina and hit the nearest supermarket for some milk of all things for a coffee in the morning before continuing on to the only campsite within cooee, which is just on the edge of town. It’s ridiculously expensive but we have are no other options. The only consolation is the view.
We say hello to our German and English neighbours and call it a night even though it won’t really be dark.
