Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Vejle, Denmark 🇩🇰 2022

Date: 28th June 2022

Travelled: 95 kms from Ribe to Vejle, Denmark

Visited: Vejle

Stayed: Vejle Camper Parking, DKK150, N55.7077, E09.5511

Budget: 34 days @ €96 per day

By the time we went to bed last night the rain had stopped. As the bitumen carpark in Ribe was dry this morning it looks like the rain has gone. There are some scattered clouds about but the forecast is dry. Our dilemma this morning is, whether to stay another day in Ribe or move on north. Ribe is free, everywhere else further north is expensive.

As we have already travelled through the Jutland on our way to Norway in 2017 we have already hit the tourist spots we thought worthwhile visiting. But as Forest suggested, life is like a box of chocolates your never know what your going to get, so we move on.

We hit the Lidl after servicing the Hymer and make for the road.

It’s a relatively easy drive, about 40kms of A32 meandering through farmlands, then 50kms of the E22 and E45. Rolling into Vejle we cannot find the stellplatz, the co-ordinates are wrong, reverting back to the street address we manage to find it.

We find signs, banners and pop-ups referring to Le Tour on every corner. Apparently stage 3, commences here in Vejle, Denmark on the 3rd July. Shame we will be long gone by then, in any case the town does have the buzz. As you can see it’s not exactly the best view from the Hymer we’ve ever had and far from the cheapest.

Historically Vejle’s existence was first recorded in 1256, it has always been a market town and the port is still significant today. You can read more about it at the link above. Today Vejle is a centre for higher education as there are a number of University campus’ in Vejle.

We pass Vor Freisers Kirke, but the doors are closed.

We have a change of heart about Vejle as we walk the Nørretorv pedestrian mall through town. It’s a mixture of the old and new, people are chatting and enjoying a warm summer’s afternoon. It’s all very clean and tidy, like everything else in Denmark. It’s hard not to enjoy the walk.

Two kms from the Hymer we cross the River Vejle and call it enough. We order a large beer and wine at a bar and sit in the late afternoon sun taking in the passing parade. The DKK203 tab (A$40) seems expensive but only if you think about it.
