Visited: Menindee and Wilcannia
Stayed: Cobar Caravan Park $38 with all services. S31.49660, E145.82565
Budget:
We say goodbye to our new friends from Nelson Bay and head east early. As we stayed on the unpowered side of the caravan park it would have meant starting the generator to make a coffee. So we scoot 10 kms out of town and make some noise and a fabulous cup of coffee.
An hour later we stop for fuel and breakfast at Emmdale Roadhouse (the only stop between Wilcannia and Cobar). By chance the owner tells us the best food in Cobar is the Empire Hotel. This chance encounter will be critically important later.
Cobar, New South Wales, Australia
We arrive in Cobar with a windscreen full of dead bugs, but in good time for another coffee. We look at a free overnight parking spot but the Carnival is in town so thatโs a no go.
So we fall back on the caravan park, which is a bit of a walk back to town, but pleasant enough. Once we are set up we go for a walk around Cobar…
Cobar does have a rich history based on the mining that has occurred here since colonial times. But other than some information panels and pictures we find little evidence of it. Apart from that we have not had any internet for a few days, so I have some catching up to do.
We stop off at the Empire Hotel, the dinning room is packed suggesting the food must be reasonable, so we make a booking.
We return to the caravan park for lunch, with some relaxation time afterwards.
We stagger back from dinner, full as googs and spend a restful night…
