Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

More of the Telemark Canal, Norway 2017 ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด

Travelled: 66 kilometres from Lunde to Vradal, Southern Norway.

Visited: Travelling the Telemark Canal.

Stayed: Vradal Municipal Stellplatz, free with service. N59.32555 E08.48580  (OurBumble)

Our slowest start this season.  The stellplatz on the Hogga Sluse is such a relaxing and peaceful place.  The sun is shining and the bird chirping.  We eventually rise and make coffee, the beds away and we enjoy our coffee overlooking the park and canal.  Then we take an hours walk along the canal and back before breakfast.  There is free internet here, so I write yesterdays blog and Pam Skype’s her sister Jenny to check on Dave.

We could easily stay another day, our neighbors are friendly and we don’t have a plane to catch for 3 months.  The lock-keeper says there is a ferry passing through at 12.30pm, so we must stay for that at least.

Pam enjoys a walk, so this morning we walk up stream on the pathway around Hogga Dam.
The path is part of Norway’s National Cycle Network, known as the Murane.  This section runs for 10 kilometres.
We find part of a hydroelectric facility up path.  Looks old but you can hear the hum.
40 minutes later we turn to head back.  Looks idylic doesn’t it.
The lock-keeper was right on time.  It’s 12.30 and a ferry sweeps around and slows to enter the top lock.  This tourist boat is a lot bigger than we expected, but it fits in easily.

The Henrik Ibsen is a very classy old Lady.  A lot of boat for less than a dozen passengers.

So it’s after 1.30pm, we pack up service the Hymer and make for the road.  Our plan is to travel the road following the lakes west until we find a free stop for the night.

The Telemark Canal continues as we head west, we suddenly swing up onto a high narrow bridge at Strengen crossing to the northern side of the canal again.
We cross the canal again near Kyiteseid.  A much newer and longer bridge but still only a single lane.

Vradal should do nicely.  A lovely view over the lake whilst we have dinner.
