Travelled : 61 kilometres from Amsterdam to Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
Visited : Amersfoort, Our Lady’s Tower @âŹ5 pp
Stayed : Amerstoort Marina Aire, 3 spots on the bank of the canal. The usual services including power and free wifi. âŹ5.50 N52.16210 E05.37837
It’s Monday morning and we have seen enough of Amsterdam for this trip. Apparently we are not the only ones as a queue at the service point soon develops. Not surprising as the place has been full all weekend, that’s about 150 motorhomes we guess. We have charged everything again and give the Hymer a thorough vacuum and consumed as much free wifi as technically possible. We join the queue at #6, getting a little frustrated watching people take 10 minutes for what should take less than 5.
We have been reading about Amersfoort and decide to drive over a have a look and see if we can get a spot in the aire. Our database only shows 3 spots, so we give our luck a run. Pam wants to do the laundry and the Hymer needs some fuel. On the outskirts of Amersfoort we find a cheap service station with a self serve laundromat and a bakery attached. An hour or so later we have a full tank of diesel, a bag of clean cloths and just finished our morning coffee with a delicious apple and walnut roll from the bakery.
Netherlands
Things are looking good today as the aire has two empty places, so we settle in.
………….day 2.
It was not the best night’s sleep last night. The lift bridge seemed to bang loudly every time something larger than a car crossed over it. This kept us awake until after well after 11pm when the traffic subsided. Funnily enough they opened the bridge this morning and it would not close. When several bridge experts arrived and fiddled away for a while they manage to close it. But then it would not open. Subsequently the canal on both side has filled with barges and cruisers. It’s made for an entertaining day.
Apart from the tower and a long walk through the old town, our second day has been something of a lay day. I have fitted new wipers blades and radio antenna to the Hymer (replacing the one I broke parking under a tree in Greece last year), so it’s not been a wasted day. We now have two new neighbors, they both have dogs. Max and Murphy don’t appear to like each other, I think it’s just a misunderstanding, Max is German and Murphy is Dutch. I think Murphy may have mentioned the war !

What a picturesque little town. Your photos are lovely.
Hi there, we ccame over to Rotterdam on the ferry from Hsrwich yesterday and last night parked in the parking spot you recommendef. Very lovely and had a quiet night. Loved the windmills. We had thought of maybe doing a tour of Rotterdam but it was raining. So headed towards Germany meaning to stay along the way but the road was so fantastic we ended up in Germany by lunchtime! In a great stellplatz in Kleve, 5âŹ, cheap power and free water. Loving be back here. Regards, joy and johannes
