Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Singapore ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ 2025

Date : 1st March 2025

Travelled : 220 NM from Benoa, Bali to Singapore.

Visited : Singapore Botanical Gardens and Fort Canning Park

Stayed : Holland Americaโ€™s Zuiderdam

After Bali a couple of sea days was just what was needed. The seas continue to be smooth making it all that much more pleasant. Back to humping around the promenade deck in the humidity and playing table tennis between eating and swimming.

As we close on Singapore the shipping lane becomes busy, theres always something to see.

On our second sea day after Bali the shipโ€™s chefs put on a special fruit platter for lunch with some unusual fruits we had never seen before. The Zuiderdam serves up fabulous food breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Having visited Singapore on a couple of occasions, we decided on the free shuttle ride from the port to the city centre.

So itโ€™s coffee and breakfast then the bus. Every time we have visited Singapore itโ€™s hot and humid and todays no different.

We have always wanted to visit Singaporeโ€™s Botanical Gardens. Thirty minutes from Esplanades Station and where there.

After wandering for 45 minutes taking in the garden and its myriad of shrubs and trees we head for the National Orchid Garden. Even better the seniors entry is on $3 rather than $12.

A section of the orchid garden is actually air-conditioned which makes the experience even better. The variety and beauty of the orchid has us spellbound.

In drafting the blog I decided to focus on the photos of the orchids as you can see.

Back on the MRT we make for the Fort Canning Park. Pamโ€™s sister has recommended visiting the old military tunnels. Itโ€™s a long steep climb up the hill made easier by a series of escalators in strategic spots. The park itself is a lovely series of fountains and the odd sculpture. (pictured below)

Long story short we arrive to find they are having a problem with there audio system and only tours are available and that means waiting another hour, so next visit to Singapore I suppose.

So itโ€™s all downhill to the MRT and an air-conditioned train ride back to the air-conditioned shuttle bus and a refreshing beverage and the pool on the Zuiderdam. That was our day.
