Travelled: 250 kms from Ljubljana to Zalakaros
Visited: Ljubljana
Stayed: Camping Zalakaros, โฌ35, N46.53150, E17.12400
Budget: 82 days @ โฌ88 per day
After a couple of wonderful days wandering Ljubljana in Slovenia itโs time to move on. Our German neighbour has already knocked on the door and said verabschiedung as we are packing up. A quick visit to the supermarket next door and we are on our way.
We do a quick stop on the border to purchase a vignette, allowing us to use the tollways in Hungary for โฌ16. We have set the GPS for a campsite in the spa town of Zalakaros.
Zalakaros, Nagykanizsai jรกrรกs, Zala, Western Transdanubia, Transdanubia, 8749, Hungary
We know nothing of the campsite on the edge of Zalakaros other that the P4N reviews were all good. Zalakaros is a geothermic area there are several large hotels and campsites all built around mineral spas. The ownerโs wife who speaks no English gave me a detailed tour of the site and spa in Hungarian so we find ourselves a spot. The price takes a little negotiation with her husband, who also speaks German but we get there eventually.
Our planned one night stopover turns into two. The campsite is far from crowded with plenty of shade, the heated pool and mineral spa are fabulous. The pool is circular obviously from the photo around 40 metres in diameter. One quarter of it mineral water at about 38ยฐ the rest around 30ยฐ. We walk into town the next morning checking out all the upmarket hotels but the rest of our stay was the spa and relaxing.
So we spend our days lulling around with mostly elderly and often a little overweight Germans and Italian who are nice enough. Nearly everyone has an infirmity of some sort or other, so we walk slowly just to be part of the team. We are as wrinkled as prunes so itโs time to continue east.
