A quiet evening until the Lidl delivery truck arrives at 5 am and starts unloading across the road. As we were asleep at 9.30 it wasn’t a deal breaker.
Anyway we do what we need to do and head off toward Malton and Castle Howard before 10 am. It’s an easy drive and we arrive in the carpark at 10.30. A little surprised to find the carpark already half full.
Castle Howard, Mans Lane, Henderskelfe, York, North Yorkshire, England, YO60 7DA, United Kingdom

Castle Howard is a grand stately home in North Yorkshire. It has been privately owned by the Howard family for more than 300 years. Built where a castle once stood, hence the name. Apparently it was used for the filming of Brideshead Revisited and many other films etc. We pay the over the top entry fee £26 pp. No point being here and not seeing it.

There’s a chill in the air, so we head straight to the house and do the tour. It takes a little over an hour and it certainly wasn’t crowded.

Our tour of the house completed we head outside to walk the estate and garden. It’s typically English with huge sweeping lawns, surrounded by fully mature trees and a couple of large lakes.
The main gardens most striking feature is the Atlas Fountain. A photo from each side below.

We also spend some time wondering the walled garden, some pictures below.

So that’s Castle Howard done, we make our way back to Pickering and the Big Bear carpark.
