We arrived at Ribblehead in the Yorkshire Dales National Park late yesterday afternoon. With the long weekend traffic it was a slow drive, but scenic as the Lancashire farmland gives way to the barren rolling hill of the Dales.

Despite cars and motorhomes large and small parked in every possible spot we drive into the carpark of the Station Inn and find a lovely spot overlooking the Ribbleheadโs famous viaduct. The viaduct was completed in 1875, it has 24 arches and is 400m in length. The Station Inn has the basic facilities we need (water and a drop), I pop in and register with the Publican and where set.
We had a very social evening over a couple of rounds and dinner at the Station Inn. There are several other small campers in the carpark and we find ourselves sitting amongst three other couples all here for dinner. So we chatted on about the camper car life style and leaving nothing for our children.
Next morning the weather has changed, thereโs a chill in the air and low cloud sitting on Whernside Peak. Our first walk of the day is around the viaduct and then back up to Ribblehead Railway Station.
After breakfast and another coffee we head off again. By now there are people everywhere on the paths, but they soon thin out.
So that was our visit to Ribblehead and the Dales.
