Date: 1st June 2022
Travelled: 120 kms from Waverton to Fairhaven, Lancashire.
Visited: Chester
Stayed: Fairlawn Road Reserve, Fairhaven, free, N53.73530, W02.97960
Budget: 7 days @ โฌ142 per day
The reserve next to the Chester Canal in Waverton proved to be a great free stop. Only slightly spoilt by the early morning dog walkers arriving from 6am. Itโs another sunny morning but once again there is a chill in the air. Pam heads off for walk along the canal and I play with the next blog.
After breakfast we head off into Chester.
Chester, England, United Kingdom
Itโs a relatively short drive into Chester. Thereโs not a lot of traffic but the closer to the centre of the old city we get the streets narrow and everything becomes a little more complex. We find our car-park (ยฃ4)just outside the city wall and pull up near several other motorhomes.
Chester was founded in 79 AD as a Roman Fortress, by the 7th century it was a significant trading city, for the next thousand year the city walls were raised and extended. Our guide book states Chester has the best preserved city walls in England. So off we goโฆ
.
A church on this site dates back to the 10th century having been added to a number of times. It was consecrated as a Cathedral in 1541. When a bishop is appointed. Anyway its quite magnificent and we enjoy exploring the interior as well.
The Cathedral done we find Chesterโs Town Hall as we make our way back to the Hymer.
Our day in Chester done we make our way back to the Hymer and set the GPS for a freestop in Fairhaven. We fill the Hymer at a discount fuel stop on the way, first time we have ever paid for than ยฃ100 to fill the tank. We manage a spot in Fairhaven and settle in for the evening.
