Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Richmond, Tasmania ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ 2022

Date: 24th February 2022

Travelled: 90 kms from Hobart to Triabunna, Tasmania.

Visited: Richmond

Stayed: Tandara Hotel, free, S42.50181, E147.91119 ย

Budget: 27 days @ $0 per day.

Another quiet evening passes by in Hobart. We chatted to our neighbours for a while. He is 92 and his wife 88 they are here in Hobart touring Tasmania in their Mercedes Sprinter camper. Bit scary but inspirational. His 85 year old sister in her own motorhome (solo) was using Google Maps to guide their travels.

Feeling inspired ourselves we ready the Jayco for the road, do the services, before crossing the Derwent on the Goodwood Bridge and making for Richmond.

As we drive along Bridge Street in Richmond the sight of so many heritage cottages, inns and public buildings is something of a surprise yet our guide book describes Richmond as Tasmaniaโ€™s most historic town. Once a strategic military post and convict station, its six arch stone bridge is the oldest in Australia.

We find a long parking spot behind Bridge Street and go off exploring.

We have a wonderful wander for an hour or so around Richmond and its back streets. Pam finds a little dress shop and just what she was looking for ?

Unfortunately there is no RV parking overnight in Richmond or we could have easily stayed, so we must continue on. Less than an hour later we arrive in Triabunna and find a spot at the Tandara Hotel RV stop.

We arrive at the RV stop to find some of the Bruny Island social club already here, so it will be a drink at the pub tonight. Tomorrowโ€™s another day and another adventure and we already have our tickets for the ferry to Maria Island tomorrow.
