The Monaro, New South Wales 🇦🇺 2020

Travelled: 145 kms from Bermagui on the South Coast to Nimmitabel in the Monaro Region of New South Wales

After an enjoyable meal at Bermagui Country Club we wandered back to the camper for a quiet night. Bermagui is something of a ghost town after 9 pm or so it seems.

We wake to a grey morning, showers are threatening according to the forecast but we head off for a walk up the river after breakfast. On our return we start to pack up for our next destination. Frankly we are not exactly sure where, except it won’t be here.

It seems the GPS is unsure as well. I set the GPS for Bega but we find ourselves on the Tathra road which is 15kms longer route to Bega. Annoying but scenic.

The road is reasonable but very slow and winding, especially in a motorhome. Stopping at a fallen tree whilst it was pulled from the road added to the delay. At Tathra we turn west for Bega, the road improves as does the country as we roll through the Bega Valley.

Soon enough we roll into Bega, finding a parking spot at the end of the Carp Street. We have lunch before walking off to explore Bega.

To be fair it was Sunday, but Bega was very quiet. Nothing was open other than Coles and Woolworths. There appears to be only a couple of cafes and we only found one open. It was a nice walk on a grey day, but nothing stood out.

Rolling out of Bega we fuel up, as the next service station is Cooma. The Snowy Mountains Highway is not the busiest road and not the place to run out of Fuel.

We continue on to Nimmitabel finding the camp ground and settling in. We are on our Pat Malone for the night. Anyway it‘s time for a walk around town, which doesn’t take long. However the Federal Hotel beckons, the Publican has the fire going so we have a warm cozy chat with a couple of locals.
