Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Moree, New South Wales ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ 2020

Date: 4th June 2020

Travelled: 100 kms from Bingara to Moree in the North-West Region of New South Wales

Visited: Warialda and Moree

Stayed: Moree Showgrounds $25 all services. S29.468014, E149.845957

Budget: NA

The 41 kms to Warialda passes easily enough although the road surface deteriorates markedly. The GPS constantly moving about clearly reacting to the larger deformations. The soil is rich and dark with an underlying green tinge of new grass on the roadside.

Passing the Blue Tree we drive into Warialda and find a parking spot just above the river. We have a wander about, stop at the IGA for a couple of bits and pieces before continuing on to Moree.

Still the Post Office.

45 minutes later we roll into Moree.

We have set the GPS for a motel come caravan park that offers a thermal pool. The thermal pools and spas are Moreeโ€™s big attraction. On arrival we find they are all closed, due to the covid. The Moree Showground Camping Area we pass a km back looked good, so we backtrack via the Mitre10 to fill a couple of LPG cylinders. After a quick chat with the campsite manager we book in.

The showgrounds are well secured, in fact itโ€™s a bit of a Fort Apache arrangement. The manager tells me if thereโ€™s any intruders he release his German Shepards, just stay in your camper until the barking and screaming stops he tells me !

Pam is keen for a late afternoon walk so we head off for a look about.

Moreeโ€™s War Memorial Hall, its facade in the Grecian style.

Having made our way back to the showgrounds as the chill sets in we heat up our Bingara pies and our baked vegetables from the IGA in Warialda and call it a night watching an episode of Sex Education on Netflix and another episode of Chernobyl.

The sun warms the Winnebago in the morning and we wander up to the coffee van on the corner about 8.30 before enjoying breakfast. Itโ€™s a short sleeve day. After breakfast we head of to walk the backstreets of Moree.

Certainly the biggest building in Moree.

We have seen posters around town for the current exhibition of selected artwork from the Archibald People Choice Award. So we happily cough $5 each and enjoy spending 45 minutes picking our favourites. We were really surprised by Moree. It was clean, tidy and felt very safe. Has some lovely parks, buildings and shops. Shame about the thermal pools.

Back at the showgrounds we get the Winnebago ready to go. We get another coffee, fill with Diesel and do a quick stop at Woolworths as we head out of town for Walgett.
