Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Praia As Catedrais, Spain ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ 2019

Date: 27th July 2019

Travelled: 92 kilometres from Tapia in Asturias to Vicedo in Galicia

Visited: Praia As Catedrias and Vicedo

Stayed: Vicedo Porte, free +B+W. N43.73838, W07.67544

Budget: 48 days @ โ‚ฌ88 per day

As the heatwave in Northern Europe continues and tempers flare on Le Tour we wake to a grey and overcast morning in Tapia. We can hear the drizzle on the roof and rollover. Our plans for walking Tapia and the beach go on hold for another couple of hours.

We have our coffee and fruit a bit later than usual as the drizzle continues. Tapia is looking decidedly wet, so we get the Hymer ready to roll and continue west on the A8. We cross the Rio Eo at Ribadeo, before turning for Praia As Catedrias.

Our guide book only has a single line on As Catedrais.

The lady in the information office tells us they open the path down to the beach as the low tide approaches. Then you can walk the various formation. The next tide is 7pm tonight, so we decide not to wait 6 hours and continue on.

Back in the Hymer again we continue west on the A8, then turn to follow the N642 coast route. This is considerably slower but more scenic. The cloud clears, the suns out as we arrive in Viveiro. A large porte town, which is handy as it has a large supermarket. We do a shop and continue another 10 kms to Vicedo and turn down to the harbour.

On the marina at Vicedo. Like the locals we park along the yellow (no parking line). There are no services other than a bin and tap, but who cares with that view.

Better still we find a series of 3 small beaches only a short walk. So we grab a towel and go to the beach. The rest of the afternoon just slips into evening.

We purchased some prawns and calamari at the market in Viveiro earlier today, with a home made salad Pam created and crusty bread we dined overlooking the marina, thatโ€™s what the camper-car lifestyle is all about.
