Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Strömstad, Sweden 2017 🇸🇪

Travelled: 188 kilometres from Molnlycke (near Göteborg) to Strömstad in Northern Sweden.

Visited: Göteborg and Strömstad

Stayed: Municipal Stellplatz at Strömstad, SEK100. The usual services + free bus to centrum. N58.95164 E11.17374

We had a very quiet evening at Molnlycke other than some yobbo sounding his horn loudly at some time, but no sleep was lost.  We woke up to a wonderful view of Lake Rädasjön through the front windscreen.  As we have breakfast the locals are coming down for a swim.  The water is 16-17c a bit chilli for me.

This panorama should open to provide our view of the lake this morning.

We have identified a motorhome friendly car park in the centrum of Göteborg (Gothenburg) and we head into the city about 9.30.  There doesn’t appear to be a lot of traffic about and we have parked next to another couple of motorhomes on the canal.  It’s SEK20 and hour or about A$3.10 an hour, so I cough up SEK40 and we head for the information Centre.

For a city, Göteborg is an easy place to get around and park.
Some care crossing Göteborg’s wide boulevardes are required. Trams, buses the odd car and bicycles 🚴 out to get you.
We walk the length of the Avenyn (the main street), to find a statue and fountain dedicated to Apollo. Given the morning sun Apollo behind provided the best photo.
As we walk down towards the old part of the Göteborg, the architecture get a Paris feel about it.
Described in the local tourist blurb as ‘the old town’. The buildings change somewhat, lots of timber. Little eateries and shops, not touristy as it has a local feel.
We find the Göteburg Dom on our way back to the Hymer. Sorry about the photo, the Dom doesn’t have a lean on it.  There was an odd sort of fellow to my left throwing bread to a flock of pigeons (why ?).  Then he would suddenly dive at them as if to catch one.  Focusing on the camera is difficult with one eye on some nutter.
It was much more peaceful inside the Dom, than keeping an eye out for a fellow planning pigeon pie.
Having walked the Göteborg tourist trail, its time to head north again on the E6.

We turn off the E6 for Strömstad. It looks nice enough, so we head around to the stellplatz to find a spot.
