Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Eastern Edge, Tasmania ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ 2022

Date: 26th February 2022

Travelled: 120 kms from Swansea to St Helens, Tasmania.

Visited: Swansea and St Helens

Stayed: St Helens RV Stop, $20, S41.31957, E148.25507 ย

Budget: 29 days @ $0 per day.

We actually have a little sleep in after last nights evening of fine dining. Its almost 8 am when the coffee goes on. Eventually we ready the Jayco for the road so we can depart before 10. This caravan park has more rules that the European Union so I wouldnโ€™t like to be here a minute later.

As we arrived late yesterday afternoon we didnโ€™t really have a look around, so we drive 500m up town, park and go for a walk.

Weโ€™ve enjoyed our walk around Swansea but it time to move on. Returning to the Tasman Hwy or its tourist nomenclature โ€˜Eastern Edgeโ€™ we continue north. Stopping for a coffee at a cemetery just outside the village of Cranbrook.

The next 50 kms is a very scenic drive, farmland on the left, beaches and rocky outcrops on the right. There are a couple of interesting towns off the Hwy but as our time in Tasmania is running out, they will have to wait until our next visit.

We finally arrive at St Helens and do a quick lap of the town looking at the overnight options. Finding the free stop is a couple of kms out in the industrial area. Its just about full and parking near the toilet dump is not an attractive option, we opt for the $20 RV stop. Its much closer to town having a nice view as well.

St Helens is the largest town in north eastern Tasmania, apparently well known for game fishing. After walking St Helens (which doesnโ€™t take long we retreat to the Jayco, chat with our neighbours followed by a quiet evening in. Well at least till 4 am when we were woken by the wind and rain.
