Michael and Pam's Travels Our European Motorhome Adventures and other Travels

Mudgee, New South Wales ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ 2021

Date: 9-10th February 2021

Travelled: 128 kms from Wallerawang to Mudgee in NSW

Visited: Mudgee.

Stayed: Mudgeee Showground, $15 with basic services S32.60137, W149.58357

Budget:

We run out of gas whilst making breakfast, I change over to the 2nd cylinder, thinking we best find an LPG gas supplier first thing. Spotting a swapโ€™nโ€™go as we depart Wallerawang, we swap LPG cylinders and put that problem to rest.

The B65 is an easy drive north-west through Cullen Bullen, Capertee, Ilford and passing Lake Cudgegong. Mind you sections of the road could certainly use an upgrade. After a road side coffee at Capertee we continue onto Mudgee..

Map of Mudgee, highlighting the showgrounds campsite.

Mudgee sits in the Cudgegong Valley, 261 kms from Sydney. The site for the village of Mudgee was surveyed in 1823. In 1860 Mudgee was declared a municipality. As usual for the time the first substantial structure was the Police Station and Goal.

We drive by the Mudgee Showground campsite and give it the thumbs up before a quick supermarket stop. Back at the campsite we find ourselves an unpowered site, saving $7. At this rate the Jayco will pay for itself in 197 years.

The rest of the afternoon becomes devoted to a little rest and relaxation only broken by Pam going for a walk. We have a quiet evening in the Jayco, leftover lamb for dinner. The satellite TV system providing the entertainment for the evening.

Most of Mudgee offers angle parking but we manage to find a heavy vehicle parallel parking area and hobble off to explore Mudgee.

Walking Market Street

Designated plastic boot recuperation seat.

Another dedicated plastic boot rest stop.

We walk the churches, old banks and other public buildings of central Mudgee. I managed to find a park bench every time something caught Pamโ€™s eye. Eventually itโ€™s a late lunch at Kellyโ€™s Irish Pub…

We drive back to the campsite and settle in to another afternoon of R+R. Itโ€™s a BBQ sausages for dinner, strangely after a large serving of fish and chips for lunch neither of us are that hungry.
