Off to New Zealand ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

March, 2009

After many years of holidaying locally we took the plunge and booked a cruise.  We picked up a special to New Zealand with Holland America on the Vollendam. The kids were old enough to look after themselves for a couple of weeks.

We soon discovered we were the youngest couple on board. Not really an issue once you learn to scoot past the walking stick people.

New Zealand and Australia enjoy a symbiotic relationship.  Lots of New Zealanders live and work in Australia, lots of Australian holiday in New Zealand, but every time our countries play sport against each other, you are guaranteed a savage contest.

Our cruise crosses the Tasman Sea arriving a Milford Sound at dawn.  We are up on deck at first light, it’s very cold.  What become clear is how close our ship is to shore and how high and steep the surrounding terrain is.  We enjoy a wonderful morning cruising the sound created by an ancient glacier.
