{"id":8636,"date":"2017-09-15T12:57:40","date_gmt":"2017-09-15T12:57:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=8636"},"modified":"2019-05-23T12:11:29","modified_gmt":"2019-05-23T02:11:29","slug":"tingsryd-sweden-%f0%9f%87%b8%f0%9f%87%aa-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=8636","title":{"rendered":"Tingsryd, Sweden 2017 \ud83c\uddf8\ud83c\uddea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Travelled: 229 kilometres from Gr\u00f6nh\u00f6gen (\u00d6land) to Tingsryd in Sweden.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Visited: Gr\u00f6nh\u00f6gen,&nbsp;\u00d6land Lighthouse SEK30pp, Kalmar and Orrefors.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Stayed: Tingsryd picnic area and rest-stop, free with bin and toilet. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/Xf9pvHx4RiWaRneu9\">N56.51600, E14.99051<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The wind really started to blow at the marina last night. &nbsp;It didn&#8217;t stop us from getting two loads of washing done and dried. &nbsp;However the Hymer rocked around all night so we have had a better sleep. &nbsp;We are surprised to wake up to brilliant sunshine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/\u00d6land_40.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Morning sunshine at the marina. It wouldn&#8217;t last for long however.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/\u00d6land_41.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The marina in&nbsp;<span style=\"text-align: start; background-color: #ffffff;\">Gr\u00f6nh\u00f6gen<\/span>&nbsp;is a pretty little place. Lots of old fishing boats and a few yatchs and pleasure craft etc.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Gr\u00f6nh\u00f6gen_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>After coffee we go for a walk around the village of Gr\u00f6nh\u00f6gen. Just a very small supermarket and this cafe built into the base of a lovely old windmill. &nbsp;As you would expect the weather quickly changes and we get a little wet on our way back to the Hymer.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Gr\u00f6nh\u00f6gen_6.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We say goodbye to Gr\u00f6nh\u00f6gen and drive the final 9 kilometres to the southern tip of&nbsp;<span style=\"text-align: start; background-color: #ffffff;\">\u00d6land. &nbsp;You can see the lighthouse a long while before you reach it. &nbsp;Its very flat out here.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Ottenby_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The area around the lighthouse is a nature reserve. We are surprised by how many people are out here bird watching.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Ottenby_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"1100\"\/><figcaption>Anyway we have come to Ottenby to climb the lighthouse. Built in 1785 and still operational today. So we part with our SEK and climb a few hundred stairs. It was worth it.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Ottenby_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The view from the lighthouse looking north. It&#8217;s fairly flat around here. We are the only people in the lighthouse. In the ticket office they have a birdwatching telescope set up over looking the sanctuary. So I had a bit of a play and took a couple of pictures with the iPhone through the lens of the telescope. Manage to catch a couple of birds in flight.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/\u00d6land_50.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Driving north we notice 3 or 4 areas just off the road with large stones standing up on their ends. \u00d6land is also famous for it&#8217;s grave sites and this is one. They have been dated from the Stone Age through to the Iron Age. &nbsp;The plaque set near the road tells that 20 of the 200 graves on this site have been excavated and what they found, just amazing to walk amongst these stones.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/\u00d6land_51.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"1100\"\/><figcaption>\u00d6land is also well known for its windmills. They are not the large types we have commonly seen through Europe but smaller versions like this. &nbsp;There are about 400 of these spread throughout the island.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Kalmar_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"1100\"\/><figcaption>We drive back over the bridge from \u00d6land to Kalmar. We need a supermarket and some culture, so we stop in Kalamar and have a wander about.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Kalmar_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The main shopping strip. It&#8217;s seem too cold and miserable for even the locals.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Kalmar_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"1100\"\/><figcaption>So we wander the old town walls for a while, before finding a Turkish restaurant and have lunch. &nbsp;There is a huge castle \/palace here in Kalmar, but we are just not in the mood. &nbsp;So we hit the road again.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Orrefors_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We stop in the town of Orrefors late in the afternoon. We visit the shop and museum at the famous Orrefors glass works.
