{"id":8556,"date":"2017-09-13T06:32:04","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T06:32:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=8556"},"modified":"2019-05-23T09:52:44","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T23:52:44","slug":"vimmerby-sweden-%f0%9f%87%b8%f0%9f%87%aa-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=8556","title":{"rendered":"Vimmerby, Sweden 2017 \ud83c\uddf8\ud83c\uddea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Travelled: 208 kilometres from&nbsp;S\u00e4terdalen to Vimmerby in Sweden.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Visited:&nbsp;Link\u00f6ping,&nbsp;G\u00f6ta Kanal and Vreta Abbey Church.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Stayed: Astrad Lingred World Stellplatz, SEK150 (but free out of season !) all services. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/9DfcnNurwaP3ELeZ9\">N57.67538, E15.84220<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a very grey and misty morning looking across the&nbsp;Br\u00e5viken channel. &nbsp;Laying in bed I heard the ferry start it&#8217;s engines around 6am, since then about every 30 minutes there is a thud and a few cars obviously roll off the ferry. &nbsp;No early walk here this morning as the paths are all wet from some rain last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After coffee and fruit we roll up to the ferry ramp. &nbsp;There are already a few cars waiting and now so are we.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Saterdalen_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Rolling onto the S\u00e4terdalen ferry. It&#8217;s free, unlike the other 20 or more ferries we have taken in the last couple of months.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Our first planned stop is Norrk\u00f6ping about 50 kilometres to the west. &nbsp;We cruise along at 80kph most of the way, hopfully avoiding a speeding fine from one of the 20 or so speed cameras we have seen this morning. &nbsp;We roll into&nbsp;Norrk\u00f6ping but cannot find a parking spot anywhere near the town centre. &nbsp;Any parking sign we follow eventually leads to a multi level car-park, so we give up and head on the Link\u00f6ping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Link\u00f6ping_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"1100\"\/><figcaption>We find a parking spot in Link\u00f6ping easily enough but we have to shell out SEK15 for the privilege. There are 7 locks in the series with a climb of 19 metres from the lake in the background of this photo into the G\u00f6to Canal<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Berg_Slussar_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Pam with the lock keeper&#8217;s cottage in the background.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Berg_Slussar_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The G\u00f6ta Canal above the locks. Very pretty, Pam and I chatted about how clean the water in the G\u00f6ta appeared in comparison to our experience on the Midi.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway there are no boats scheduled to run through the canal today, so we soon loose interest. &nbsp;There is a motorhome service point in the canal carpark so that fixes that problem. &nbsp;It&#8217;s only a kilometre up the road to the Vreta Abbey Church, so we head off to find it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Vreta_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Erected in the early 12th century, it had been expanded extensively by 1162. It has served as an episcopal church, abbey and parish church to date.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Vreta_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The alter of the Vreta Abbey Church.
