{"id":8262,"date":"2017-09-03T11:10:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-03T11:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=8262"},"modified":"2019-05-23T07:36:44","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T21:36:44","slug":"tampere-finland-%f0%9f%87%ab%f0%9f%87%ae-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=8262","title":{"rendered":"Tampere, Finland 2017 \ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddee"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Travelled: 140 kilometres from&nbsp;Pirunpes\u00e4ntie to Tampere in Finland.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited: The Devil&#8217;s Nest (Pirunpes\u00e4ntie) \u20ac5pp, Tempere.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: Tampere, lakeside car-park, free. <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/9FdmuEGxz3rC8qLc9\">N61.49009, E23.75669<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a very quiet night at the Devil&#8217;s Nest in Pirunpes\u00e4ntie. &nbsp;Mind you when its very quiet it can be a bit disconcerting if your the nervous type. &nbsp;But we aren&#8217;t the nervous types luckily enough, so it was a good sleep. &nbsp;The sun is warming the Hymer well before we venture out of bed. &nbsp;They don&#8217;t unlock the gates until 10am according to the sign, so we decide (or at least Pam does) on a brisk walk before breakfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Pirunpes\u00e4ntie_10.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>It&#8217;s a bright sunny morning in beautiful Pirunpes\u00e4ntie. Cannot get over the red soil here, very similar to central Australia.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Pirunpes\u00e4ntie_11.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Walking down through the forest track. The exposed rocks are covered with a thin lichen, so dense the rock is hard to see. &nbsp;That orange patch is a giant mushroom by the way.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Pirunpes\u00e4ntie_12.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>At 23 metres deep and 14 metres across, it&#8217;s a big hole. Looking at the steel ladder system to access the bottom of the Devil&#8217;s Nest, Pam is already excited !<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Pirunpes\u00e4ntie_15.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"825\" height=\"1100\"\/><figcaption>Almost at the bottom, Pam is turning into a bit of a risk taker after all our travels.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Pirunpes\u00e4ntie_17.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>They believe the cauldron or sink hole was created during the last ice age when this area was left arid and bare. The wind and rain then created this sink hole in a section of soft granite. Over the millennium since, it slowly filled with sand and gravel until it was excavated in 1981-2.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Vampire_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We have only travelled 10 kilometres from Pirunpes\u00e4ntie when we spot this old Vampire Jet set up on display near a service station and restaurant that has been long closed.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Vampire_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Seems like a nice spot for a coffee so we make a short break out of it.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Cover_Plate_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Our data-base indicates you can service your motorhome at this servo. I go in and ask the lady behind the counter she hands me a cover lifter and says it&#8217;s the cover with the white cross. Pam thought it was funny, hence the photo. In Finland, you do what you need to do.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Tempere_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>An hour later we roll into Tampere. Finland&#8217;s second city. There are two overnight options, the first one is a little further out has fresh skid marks all over the hard stand appearing to being used by the local youth as a drag strip. &nbsp;The other on the lakes edge looks good, so we settle in.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Tempere_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The view from the Hymer back toward the city. On our walk in the morning we found a Circus was only 200 metres up the lake. Luckily we didn&#8217;t know, as Pam has a bit of a thing for Clowns \ud83e\udd21.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Tampere_22.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>&#8216;Pam sees the light&#8217;, I was instantly reminded of a scene from the Blue&#8217;s Brothers.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We continue on to the Tuomiokirkke, it was closed yesterday and we have made it part of our morning walk. &nbsp;We arrive just after it&#8217;s advertised opening time to find mass still underway. &nbsp;We slip inside and mix with the local parishioners and enjoy the hymes and blessing.
