Travelled: 277 kilometres from Grogingen in The Netherlands to Gl\u00fcckstadt in Germany.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visited: Just the road, Elbe River Ferry \u20ac17<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stayed: Municipal Stellplatz on the canal in Gl\u00fcckstadt, \u20ac10 and no services other than a bin. Wifi is free at the marina. N53.78556 E09.41053<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We don’t get away from Grogingen until after lunch, then we muck around at the nearest Lidl topping up on more beer, wine and some other German bits and pieces.  It’s a long afternoon of driving but the roads are mostly excellent.  From Grogingen the non-existant German border is only 50 kilometres away and we continue towards Hamburg.  Once the 130kph limit drops off, the fast movers are on there way and we have a couple of black Audis give the Hymer a shake as they pass us at probably double our speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then we turn off heading north-east towards Demark and the Elbe.  The traffic slows as we go from dual to single carriageway and then back regularly.  It’s mostly dairy country the smell of cows in huge sheds (not pleasant) fills the cab of the Hymer every now and then.  We are surprised at how busy this road is, but it’s not really as the Elbe Ferry privides a short cut from The Netherlands and western Germany to Denmark and the north whilst avoiding the chaos of Hamburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Queued up the the ferry at Wischhaden, it has actually turned into a warm afternoon.  There is a sudden chill in the air when the ferry man asks for \u20ac17.  Thought Pam was having a stroke.  She is right a car only costs \u20ac5, so \u20ac17 for a small motorhome like the Hymer seems a bit rich.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Elbe Ferry takes about 15 minutes for the passage across the busy river. There are 3 ferries working the route today as best we can work out.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Here we are next to the Hymer, parked in the stellplatz at Gl\u00f9ckstadt.  The Elbe looks quite peaceful but large ships are going to and from Hamburg 24\/7.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
