{"id":6916,"date":"2017-07-26T18:50:08","date_gmt":"2017-07-26T18:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=6916"},"modified":"2019-05-21T08:21:54","modified_gmt":"2019-05-20T22:21:54","slug":"groningen-the-netherlands-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=6916","title":{"rendered":"Groningen, The Netherlands 2017 \ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddf1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>Travelled: 155 kilometres from Den Helder in Holland to Groningen in the Friesland, The Netherlands<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Visited: The old centrum of Groningen, the Martinitoren Tower \u20ac3 pp<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Stayed: No Limits Shipping, Marina Stellplatz \u20ac12.50 all services and wifi. <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/XgTKdW1GsNcZd2tD9\">N53.21606 E06.59579<\/a> (CamperContact)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>We arrived in Groningen mid-afternoon and find the marina after some assistance from a kind neigbour. &nbsp;Nothing special, a working marina, rather than a place rich people keep their boats. &nbsp;But it&#8217;s reasonable close to the old town and very quiet, with nice clean facilities. &nbsp;We try and venture out and walk up town a couple of times during the afternoon only to be beaten back by the drizzle. &nbsp;Apart from that I need to find some solution to our failed mail system. &nbsp;So I spend the afternoon on wordpress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6947\" srcset=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947-scaled.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947-570x428.jpg 570w, https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947-1320x990.jpg 1320w, https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_4947-2731x2048.jpg 1366w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>The B644 behind us is magnificent, a year younger than the Hymer. &nbsp;It&#8217;s one of the special models they produced in 2006, before going to the newer shape in 2007. &nbsp;Mind you ours would look a bit better if Pam didn&#8217;t have it disguised as a Chinese laundry !<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We wake to a sunny morning, something of a shock seeing the sun in the morning. &nbsp;So we have breakfast and set of for the old center of Groningen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Groningen_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We walk up past a massive outlet complex and suddenly it&#8217;s suburbia Friesian style. Modern apartment along side old house boats and barges.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Groningen_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>A second canal, just on the edge of the centrum. &nbsp;More house boats and barges lining the canal. &nbsp;We note they all have their own post box and sewer outlet. &nbsp;The later explaining why the canals look so clean (in comparison to the French canals, Yuk!)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Groningen_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>Thought this was interesting. &nbsp;They build a new tourist office near the Martinitoren Tower. &nbsp;So they mural the side of the new building to blend it in ?<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Groningen_4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>The Martinitoren (tower) is part of the Martinikerk (church). &nbsp;But we find out its \u20ac3pp to visit the tower and another \u20ac3pp to visit the church. &nbsp;We opt for the tower only. &nbsp;Built in the 16th century by the way.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Groningen_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The tower doesn&#8217;t open till 11am, bascily most stuff in the Netherlands doesn&#8217;t so we go for a walk around the tourist route.
