A National Trust Estate \u00a313 for the Castle and Garden each.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed: &nbsp;The canal lock carpark at Coed-Y-Dinas, free (Wildcamping), a lovely spot. <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/LQJkTtFoRjbADkh3A\">N52.63978 W03.15844<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>As we drive west from Shrewbury on the A458 the road narrows. &nbsp;The scenery is changing. &nbsp;Low hills rise on both sides of the road as we drive into the valley. &nbsp;Its also much greener as we cross the Welsh border and drive on to Welshpool. &nbsp;Its still morning as we roll into Welshpool and find a Tesco Supermarket at the first round-about. &nbsp;So we drive in a find a long parking spot and shop for a few more things we have found were missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Powis Castle is only 2 kilometres from Welshpool and we are soon driving into the carpark. &nbsp;As you would expect the Castle stands high on the hill above the car-park so we will have a bit of a walk. &nbsp;The car-park is almost full but we see 3 other motorhome already in one corner. &nbsp;We drive over park nearby and introduce ourselves. &nbsp;We discuss the usual topic &#8216;where are you stopping for the night ?&#8217;, they are planning on staying in the carpark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we start the long walk up the hill and cough up the entrance fee&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Povis_Castle.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Built over 700 years Powis Castle was the family home of Clive of India.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Castle is more a stately home than the fortress that was originally concieved. &nbsp;It is disappointing to be told you cannot take photos. &nbsp;Perhaps the National Trust are concerned that the news may get back that Clive of India brought back most of the good stuff with him when he returned home. &nbsp;There is a fine collection of paintings depicting family and life in the country. &nbsp;Lots of fine furniture and nick-nacks from India and the far east. &nbsp;Anyway we enjoyed the Castle and walked the garden for an hour later in the afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Povis_Courtyard.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>The courtyard within the Castle is spacious, but more importantly it has wifi. So we do a quick catch-up.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Povis_Bird.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Also wander the courtyard, a male Lyre Bird and his family. He was happy enough to put on a display at regular intervals.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The garden of Powis are well worth a walk. &nbsp;There a 4 terraces of unusual plants to explore as you make your way down to the formal gardens and croquet lawns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/The_Povis_Terraces.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Pam enjoys the walk as well as the unusual plants that line each level.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Povis_Terrace_View.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Looking down on the great lawn and formal garden from the upper terrace of Powis Castle.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in the Hymer we run through our various data bases and see a carpark adjioning a lock on the canal. &nbsp;Its only a short distance away so we decide to have a look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Welshpool_Lock.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>We found the perfect spot on the Montgomery Canal for the night. &nbsp;Coed-Y-Dinas only two kilometres south of town.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Within a couple of hours we are joined by 2 of the motorhomes we chatted with earlier. &nbsp;After dinner they ask us to join them for a little sangria and a chat. &nbsp;Very nice people and another wonderful day of motorhoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Montgomery_Canal.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Looking back toward Welshpool along the canal.
