{"id":6154,"date":"2016-10-11T11:19:28","date_gmt":"2016-10-11T11:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=6154"},"modified":"2022-09-21T15:27:07","modified_gmt":"2022-09-21T05:27:07","slug":"freiburg-and-waldkirch-germany-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=6154","title":{"rendered":"Waldkirch, Germany 2016 \ud83c\udde9\ud83c\uddea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Travelled : 72 kilometres from Getenbach to Waldkirch, Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited : Waldkirch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed : Waldkirch Municipal Stellplatz, free, the usual services but \u20ac1 for water N48.09026 E7.95828 (1 night)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Budget : 96 days @ \u20ac75 per day.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>We say a sad goodbye to Gutenberg and start the steep climb out of the valley. &nbsp;We didn&#8217;t complete our walk but we meet some lovely people, have eaten some of the best Black Forest Gataeu and give the Hymer&#8217;s heating system a test. &nbsp;If the weather cleared a little we planned a drive to Mount Brend as the views over this side of the Forest are claimed to be spectacular, but we can barely see 100 metres in the mist we just continue north.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We stop briefly in Triberg, fuel up the Hymer, refill the fridge at the Lidl and take in the a tourist town with more Cuckoo shops than parking spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s time to get serious about heading back to England and putting the Hymer to bed for 2016. \u00a0We need to get ourselves back to the warmth of an Australian summer. \u00a0So we turn west toward Freiburg, half an hour later we see a castle on a hill overlooking the town of Waldkirch decide to stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Waldkirch straddles the Elz River, a tributary of the Danube. &nbsp;Its has a nice stellplatz (free) only a short walk from the altstadt.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>Like all good German towns it has a model railway shop (its true). &nbsp;It had some great 2nd hand Marklin locos for sale, but don&#8217;t tell Greg, Christine would kill me.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>An interesting fountain in the Marktplatz. Sunny one minute, cold the next. Its time to find a warmer place to spend October.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_4.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Only a 100 metres from our camper we find this lovely lake, a mini golf course and an activities centre for kids. There was a nice biergarten adjacent the lake, but as we didn&#8217;t have our thermal underwear on, we had a drink inside.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>Interesting bird house we find walking through the park in Waldkirch.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>In the morning we decide to walk up to the Castleburg. The adventure starts with the first of a dozen carved wooden knights we find guarding the pathway.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>Its a long steep walk up the hill, but eventually we reach the Castle only to find there are 30 noisy school kids running about. &nbsp;The Castle first written reference is in 1254. &nbsp;Interesting is the use of red sandstone in the lintels and archways. &nbsp;The same stone can be seen in the town&#8217;s church which dates 500 years later.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_10.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The staircase up to the tower is a beauty.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Waldkirch_13.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Nice view of Waldkirch from the Castle.
