{"id":5380,"date":"2016-08-26T04:17:09","date_gmt":"2016-08-26T04:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=5380"},"modified":"2019-05-19T16:30:41","modified_gmt":"2019-05-19T06:30:41","slug":"meppen-germany-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=5380","title":{"rendered":"Meppen, Germany 2016 \ud83c\udde9\ud83c\uddea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Travelled : 121 kilometres from Munster to Meppen, Lower Saxony.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited : Meppen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed : Municipal Stellplatz \u20ac8 + Electricity \u20ac2 + \u20ac2 water. <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/oA5N9f8CYw82\">N52.69035 &nbsp;E7.28504<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a very warm evening at Camping Munster, but it had cooled enough to turn off the AC and open the windows after 10 pm and it was a good sleep. &nbsp;It&#8217;s already warming as we pack up the Hymer and get ready to depart, a bit annoyed to find we have to pay an extra \u20ac1 for water on top of our overnight fee. &nbsp;From now on I will check what&#8217;s included in the overnight cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We depart Munster heading north-west on the B54. &nbsp;From our experience so far, the roads in Germany are amazing. &nbsp;The B54 is just a single carriageway, yet there are no cross roads, traffic lights or roundabouts. &nbsp;Just ramps on or off ! &nbsp;Every 5 kilometres there is a passing lane about 1.5 kilometres long. &nbsp;50 kilometres later we turn onto the A31 an autobahn heading north, an even better road. &nbsp;However we are constantly passed by cars travelling at blinding speed. &nbsp;I was under the impression that the general speed limit in Germany is now 130 kph. &nbsp;I notice our GPS shows no speed limit on the autobahn and the black BMW and Mercedes don&#8217;t seem to have a limit either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An hour later we roll into Meppen. &nbsp;We met with a German couple yesterday who had recommended Meppen and the cycle path along the Dortmund canal. &nbsp;The stellplatz has 8 dedicated spots and 4 are already taken, so after working out where the afternoon shade will be, we pick our spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Meppen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>The Rathaus or City Hall to those of us who cannot speak German. The Altstadt in Meppen seems a little strange, there are a few very well preserved buildings but the rest of the centre of town looks no more than 5-10 years old.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Meppen_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>It&#8217;s a very hot afternoon, a large electronic sign alternating between the time and temperature tells us it 35\u00b0. No bronze figures for Pam here in Meppen it&#8217;s all about the children. &nbsp;Very few shops are air-conditioned it seems and people are either sitting in cafes eating huge ice creams or having a beer.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Meppen_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>The Church in Meppen. Could not find anything indicating it&#8217;s name unfortunately.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Meppen_5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>The church was very sparse inside other than the lovely gilded altar piece. Mind you it had a very modern touch, the old bronze doors had electronic sensors.
