time, so we are set to explore Ludinghausen.

Not a very good picture of Pam or this old fellow she has sidled up to. We walk the lane ways of the altstadt, lots of dress shops, cafes and restaurants.

Ludinghausen is a town surrounded by water. There seems to be streams or canals running everywhere. This old mill and wheel opposite the tourist information a good example.

It’s a pretty and peaceful place, all the parks and the altstadt have free public wifi. So there are lots of young people sitting in the shade on Facebook or whatever.

There is a mixture of old and new building throughout Ludinghausen. It seems most people get water frontage.

After a late lunch we get the bikes out and head off on the cycle way to explore the castles. Pam seems drawn to bronze statues, maybe a can of Brasso for her birthday.

Vischering Castle, sits on a small island within a wetland. Looks like a 14th century castle should, with its drawbridge and moat. Unfortunately the castle itself is closed for 12 months whilst renovations are underway. So we visited the small museum.

Ludinghausen Castle is much closer to town, but also surrounded by water. It’s really not what we would call a castle, more like a stately old house. You can wander about but it appeared to be closed and empty.

Michael and Pam

<div id="bpp_credits" style="clear: both;
