{"id":5168,"date":"2016-08-08T11:44:52","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T11:44:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=5168"},"modified":"2019-05-18T16:58:19","modified_gmt":"2019-05-18T06:58:19","slug":"amersfoort-the-netherlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/?p=5168","title":{"rendered":"Amersfoort, The Netherlands 2016 \ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddf1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Travelled : 61 kilometres from Amsterdam to Amersfoort, The Netherlands.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visited : Amersfoort, Our Lady&#8217;s Tower @\u20ac5 pp<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stayed : Amerstoort Marina Aire, 3 spots on the bank of the canal. &nbsp;The usual services including power and free wifi. \u20ac5.50 &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/mP7qpPxY4XT2\">N52.16210 &nbsp;E05.37837<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s Monday morning and we have seen enough of Amsterdam for this trip. &nbsp;Apparently we are not the only ones as a queue at the service point soon develops. &nbsp;Not surprising as the place has been full all weekend, that&#8217;s about 150 motorhomes we guess. &nbsp;We have charged everything again and give the Hymer a thorough vacuum and consumed as much free wifi as technically possible. &nbsp;We join the queue at #6, getting a little frustrated watching people take 10 minutes for what should take less than 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have been reading about Amersfoort and decide to drive over a have a look and see if we can get a spot in the aire. &nbsp;Our database only shows 3 spots, so we give our luck a run. &nbsp;Pam wants to do the laundry and the Hymer needs some fuel. &nbsp;On the outskirts of Amersfoort we find a cheap service station with a self serve laundromat and a bakery attached. &nbsp;An hour or so later we have a full tank of diesel, a bag of clean cloths and just finished our morning coffee with a delicious apple and walnut roll from the bakery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Things are looking good today as the aire has two empty places, so we settle in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Amerstoort_1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Parked up in the little aire in Amersfoort. After asking several in depth questions the machine charges us \u20ac5.50 per 24 hours. Seems like a bargain, all the usual service including power and bonus free wifi if we walk across the bridge to the marina.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Amerstoort_2.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Love this French day boat that arrived just after us. &nbsp;Note that lift bridge is only some 30 metres from the Hymer.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Amerstoort_3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The Koppelport Gate. &nbsp;Amersfoort is a 15th century town surround by 2 canals, an inner and an outer. Like moats they provide defensive lines around the town but also a transport and trade routes as well.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Amerstoort_5.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Certainly more beautiful than any canal in Amsterdam. &nbsp;There seems to be real pride in how the town presents. &nbsp;Flower pots line the streets and it&#8217;s all very neat and tidy.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Amerstoort_6.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Walking the Langestr seems a very popular pastime this afternoon.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.day 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>It was not the best night&#8217;s sleep last night. &nbsp;The lift bridge seemed to bang loudly every time something larger than a car crossed over it. &nbsp;This kept us awake until after well after 11pm when the traffic subsided. &nbsp;Funnily enough they opened the bridge this morning and it would not close. &nbsp;When several bridge experts arrived and fiddled away for a while they manage to close it. &nbsp;But then it would not open. &nbsp;Subsequently the canal on both side has filled with barges and cruisers. &nbsp;It&#8217;s made for an entertaining day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Amersfoort_10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>Our Lady&#8217;s Tower in Amersfoort. Your right it&#8217;s not the highest medieval tower in The Netherlands at 98.3 metres. &nbsp;It was only after climbing the &nbsp;346 steps that we found it was the second highest medieval tower in The Netherlands. &nbsp;Pam asked for her \u20ac5 back !<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Amersfoort_11.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>The tower provides wonderful views around the district and the weather coming our way.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelandpamstravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Amersfoort_12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"999\"\/><figcaption>The carillon bells near the top of the tower. &nbsp;There are 100 bells in the carillon. &nbsp;It&#8217;s an amazing structure given construction started in 1444 and completed in 1500.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from the tower and a long walk through the old town, our second day has been something of a lay day. &nbsp;I have fitted new wipers blades and radio antenna to the Hymer (replacing the one I broke parking under a tree in Greece last year), so it&#8217;s not been a wasted day. &nbsp;We now have two new neighbors, they both have dogs. &nbsp;Max and Murphy don&#8217;t appear to like each other, I think it&#8217;s just a misunderstanding, Max is German and Murphy is Dutch. &nbsp;I think Murphy may have mentioned the war !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael and Pam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"bpp_credits\" style=\"clear: both; float: right; width: 200px; height: 70px; text-align: right;\"><a style=\"text-decoration: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.blogpadpro.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"vertical-align: middle; font-size: 8pt; color: #999;\">Edited with BlogPad Pro<\/span><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"vertical-align: middle; padding-left: 5px;\" src=\"http:\/\/files.blogpadpro.com\/images\/speech-bubble.png\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\"><\/figure><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Travelled : 61 kilometres from Amsterdam to Amersfoort, The Netherlands.
