Travelled : 35 kilometres from Oostvoorne to Rotterdam, The Netherlands.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visited : Rotterdam, Boijmans Museum \u20ac30<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stayed : Two nights in the dedicated motorhome parking on the canal, the Schiedam District, Rotterdam. \u20ac7 per day, no services, but close to Parkweg Metro Station, less than 15 minutes to city centrum (Beurs)  N51.91935 E04.39393<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s been a quiet night on the marina in Oostvoorne, however the weather is still cool and wet when we open the screens.  Perhaps not as bad as yesterday, so we check the weather forecast.  We would like to move on and continue our exploration of The Netherlands, but it’s comfortable here and the wifi is excellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have coffee and breakfast before decide to risk the weather and move on to Rotterdam.  I service the Hymer in the rain, we say our goodbyes to the proprietor and hit the N15 east.  The roads in The Netherlands continue to impress as we make our way toward Rotterdam.  Passing huge refineries and other large complexes as we approach the city itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have the co-ordinates for a small dedicated motorhome parking area in the Schiedam, which means little to us at this stage but from all accounts it’s handy to the centrum of Rotterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our GPS takes us to a small carpark dedicated for motorhomes. It sits on a canal, it has a very nice outlook with a couple of huge windmills for company.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Metro station is only a few hundred metres away and we are soon negotiating with the ticket machine for an all day\/all services pass for \u20ac7.50 each<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our aim for today is to do the self guided walking tour of Rotterdam. So we find the tourist office and ask for a map, \u20ac1 please.  Anyway it starts at the Maritime Museum which has a wonderful working boat section out on the canal behind.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

All sorts of barges, tugs and ferries. Not to mention cranes, dredges and steam shunting engine. It’s a boy’s delight.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We loose count of how many lift bridges we walk over in the afternoon.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It’s getting late and it’s still a couple of kilometres back to the big Metro Station at Beurs. So we cheat and catch a tram back over the Nieuwe Mass (river) to Beurs.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Safely back in the Hymer we meet our new neighbors Bob and Marcia from Vancouver, Canada.  They have been travelling in Europe for several years.  The beer and wine comes out and we spend a couple of hours talking about travel, life and our children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the shadows start to lengthen the sun reappears and our windmills take on a happy face.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our Canadian friends are leaving bright and early and we say goodbye and safe travels.  After breakfast we head off for a walk through the Schiedam.  We are amazed by the network of canals, lovely old lift bridges and windmills to be found in the Schiedam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By mid-morning we are again on the metro to Beurs in centrum Rotterdam.  Pam is keen to spend the afternoon with the Dutch Masters.  Rotterdam is home to the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, one of the world’s best collections of the Dutch Masters as well as many other famous artist, according to the Lonely Planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
