We met up last night with Mark and Mireille our long time motor-homing friends. We first started corresponding during our early travels through Europe in the Hymer and they were doing the same in Bluey. Here we are some 12 years later still travelling in motorhomes and catching up in the pub at Lee Point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Darwin exercise program continues to alternate between cycling and swimming, bit like being at home but the weather is much better. During this morning bike ride we find an interesting information panel, dedicated to Z Special Unit. During WWII before the days of the SAS this was the most highly trained unit in the Australian Army. They trained in Darwin and had their secret communication base here at Lee Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather looks perfect for a Sunday drive (same as every other day) to Wagait Beach. There are two ways of getting to Wagait Beach, a ferry which seems to run without a schedule or take the 90 minute drive. As the hire car being a hybrid appears to run on the smell of an oily rag, we drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The road is good, there\u2019s little traffic and it\u2019s scenic in a dry savanna sort of way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s Wagait Beach, no need to swim between the flags.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

So having seen Wagait Beach we head to the Cox Country Club for a long lunch. The foods good in a \u2018pub grub\u2019 style and the beer and wine very cold. People seem to come and go in waves and we soon work out it\u2019s the mini bus that picks up and drops off from the ferry wharf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a friendly quirky sort of place not trying to be a touristy pub, there are no stuffed crocodiles and the prices are reasonable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaving the Country Club and Wagait we spot the tourist sign and take a detour finding the memorial and wreckage of \u2018Milady\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s always a hazard reduction going on somewhere around Darwin. If you cannot see smoke you can smell it. Pictured below, hard to miss this one just before Humpty Doo about 30 kms south of Darwin on our way home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We take a final drive into the city just because we can. After a walk around the shops we make our way around to the harbour\u2019s water front to experience the wave pool. Paying $6 for seniors concession. Pam thought that was a bit rich and argued she was only there as my carer and didn\u2019t want to swim, the girl didn\u2019t fall for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To my surprise Pam says if she\u2019s got to pay, she\u2019ll swim, so we bobbed around on blue donuts together. After a dry off we have lunch in a Vietnamese place which was excellent. Topping off a great day and a great visit to Darwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we start to do some packing up for an early escape, maybe a final swim at Casuarina pool before starting our journey south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
