Travelled: 340 kms from Darwin to Litchfield return  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visited: Litchfield National Park  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stayed: Lee Point Resort CP, $62, S12.66613, E132.83534  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making an early start we pack the car with noodles and towels before rolling out into Lee Point\u2019s morning traffic. As we have the car we\u2019ve decided on a day trip to Litchfield rather than spending a couple of days in the national park in the Jayco. So you could say we\u2019ve done the abridged version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Litchfield National Park<\/a> is one of the highlights of a top end tour and much closer to Darwin than Kakadu or Katherine. Still it\u2019s 100 kilometres from Darwin to the village of Batchelor on the edge of the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Batchelor it\u2019s a very slow 50 kilometres to Florence Falls our first stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We take the longer path to Florence Falls, which provides a scenic walk along a palm line creek. The water crystal clear and plenty of shade as the temperature is already in the high twenties. The plunge pool water is clear and refreshing, ideal for some noodling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We swim, float and generally take in the scenery for 30 minutes before drying off as best we can and take the 150 odd steps back up to the viewing point. By this stage we\u2019re hot and sweaty again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in the car and off to our next stop Wangi Falls some 35 kilometres further into the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wangi Falls could be better described as a cascade which drops some 84 metres into the plunge pool. Wangi certainly is popular but being several times the size of Florence there is plenty of room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once away from the plunge pools entry point it\u2019s easy to escape the crowd. We noodle around for 30 minutes before drying off and heading off on the loop walk around the falls. Less than two kilometres it feels a lot longer with less shade and a lot more steps to the viewing point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The view across the dry savanna woodland from above the falls is panoramic. Back at the starting point of the walk we decide on another swim before heading back to Darwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s another 80+ kilometres to Berry Springs. Whilst the road is excellent, it\u2019s 80 kilometres of nothing but the odd road sign and the occasional road kill. Thankfully the pub at Berry Springs looks good for a late lunch so we take a break. It\u2019s a popular stop the place is packed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Returning to Lee Point and the safety of the Jayco our day is done, as we walk up to the CP pool to mingle with the other nomads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
