After enjoying our walk around Pine Creek we make ready for the road once again. Filling with fuel as it\u2019s a long detour from the Stuart out to Jabiru and then on north towards Darwin. Almost as soon as we leave the 60 kilometre speed limit the turn onto the Kakadu Highway looms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a slow 200 kilometres to Jabiru. The road is good but slow as it weaves its way through some scenic countryside. Soon enough we enter the Kakadu National Park<\/a>. At times lush with tropical pines and some rocky outcrops weathered to odd shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we\u2019ve arrived reasonably early I have a walk around the campsite picking a spot with some shade before booking in, getting the spot after a short argument. The sites all have ensuites which is nice but the place is a dust bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need to be a bit realistic with what we can achieve via a motorhome within Kakadu. The key tourist highlights are 100+ kilometres from each other and there\u2019s a lot of gravel road. However Cahills Crossing and Ubirr are less than 40 kilometres from Jabiru and the roads are sealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The spelling reminds us of a Welsh Railway Station<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Cahills Crossing is claimed to be the most dangerous river crossing in Australia. Could be the saltwater crocodiles, the bull sharks or the stupid people that don\u2019t manage risk very well, like the guy fishing. We arrive 30 minutes before low tide and wait for the action to begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tidal flow changes within a few minutes from downstream to upstream, within 15 minutes it\u2019s flowing over the causeway at speed. Good size fish are crossing as we watch and the crocodiles move in for breakfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
