Travelled: 340 kms from Narrabri to Wellington  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visited: Gilgandra and Wellington <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stayed: Wellington Valley CP, $35, S32.56505, E148.94400  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Budget: 61 days @ $XX per day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a swim in Narrabri\u2019s heated pool we hit the supermarket and fill with diesel as we leave Narrabri. The weather is sunny as we travel south on the Newall. Much of the 200 kms to Gilgandra is made transversing the Pilliga State Conservation Area or the Pilliga Scrub which is its more common name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The traffic is light just the odd caravan or truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We decide Gilgandra<\/a> is far enough today so we spend the night at Gilgandra\u2019s Rest a While CP. As we have visited Gilgandra on a much warmer day in 2020, no point with another blog on this visit. Click this link to that old post.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a very cold night and the heater on at 5 am, Pam insists on a forced march around Gilgandra which we manage wearing gloves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come 10 am we roll out of cold Gilgandra for Wellington which is cold and windy !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I rang the CP in Wellington to make sure we could get a spot and the manager seemed confident he could squeeze us in. As it turns out we are the only travellers in the place. Not that there was anything wrong with the CP other than being a km from town and even colder than Gilgandra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The breeze feels like ice as we wander off for a walk around Wellington<\/a>, it\u2019s days like this I think a pair of long pants would be a good idea. While we thought, Lee Street which is the continuation of the Mitchell Hwy through Wellington was the main street, in fact all the towns most significant and historic building are a block further east. Back in the Jayco with the heater on we settle down for a night in as the sun sets. It’s too cold and too far to walk up to the pub for dinner so we polish off some leftovers and watch a little TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the morning I ready the Jayco for the road while Pam goes for a quick walk. From Wellington we return home via a couple of days with the grandchildren and a night catching up with friends from Richmond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
