A quiet evening at the aire in Goult Gare. Mind you where pretty sure every evening in Goult Gare is quiet, there\u2019s nothing here but the Aire CC and the old railway station, the railway line apparently ripped up many years ago, it\u2019s now a cycle path. We have no idea where from or where to but it makes a great walking path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gare is the French term for a railway station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the usual 6 kms forced march we have a late breakfast and plan our visit to Roussillon. The scooter is already off the Hymer from yesterday\u2019s visit to M\u00e9nerbes, so where soon on our way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From our guide book the Most Beautiful Villages of France you\u2019ll find Roussillon on page 128. Unlike many of the villages we have visited in France Roussillon was not a fortified village in the shadow of a castle. Roussillon stands on Mont Rouge a hill of soft coloured stone. From Roman times the coloured sands from this village were traded across the empire. In the 18th century a local man developed a method to extract the colour from the sands and Roussillon flourished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I should add the views across the vineyards, cherry trees and lavender fields of Provence add substantially to its delights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We arrive in Roussillon to find parking is free for scooters, everyone in cars has to buy a ticket. The car-park is already full and we thought we had arrived before it got busy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see from the pictures above the ochre colouring themes the whole village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a viewing point pictured below the weathered stone reflects the colour scheme of the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pictures below the beauty of Provence is captivating. In the distance the mountains of the Luberon provide a backdrop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u00c9glise pictured below is perhaps a little unloved and austere. I know you\u2019d be disappointed if I didn\u2019t add a church to a blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By this time Roussillon is swarming with people, tour buses from a ship add to the chaos. We manage some nice photos by escaping the crowd into the back laneways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our original thought of having a late lunch here just isn\u2019t going to happen, there is a 50 metre queue for an ice cream. We wander back to the park and scooter home to the Hymer which is sitting in the shade at Gault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At drinking time we scooter a couple a kms back to a little bar in Lumi\u00e9res for an ap\u00e9ritif. Another day done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
